Morning Routines topics have become very popular and with good reason. It is a necessary part of any successful person's day! A Harvard study showed that a good morning routine can influence your attitude, energy level, and performance throughout the day. As a naturally ambitious person, I migrated to a morning routine about three years ago! It really came from a desire to go beyond myself and create a life where I remained in the drivers seat. So, I'm explaining exactly what I do - and why I do it!
Set your Rise and Shine Time Early!
Get up as early as possible without hurting yourself, but push! My rise goal is 5:00 am every morning! No. I don't always abide, but whenever there is something on my schedule. You can bet on me getting out in front of the day early. The idea here is to get in some "me" time.
I've heard some Guru's suggest getting up as early as 3:00 am.
Before attempting anything severe, know your limitations. A good rule of thumb is to create a rise and shine time that does't make you feel like crap. At the same time it gives you enough time to do some really nice self care!
Set your intentions!
The whole purpose of rising early is to get that quality alone time. For about 15 min. I use the freshest part of me to snuggle up on the couch with my Journal! I do this before freshening up, or anything. I allow myself to meditate on the day ahead. I set my daily goals. I purge anything plaguing from prior events and wish well upon family, friends and all of our Awesome World! This is calibration point, for me. And if I miss it, it's like Superman without kryptonite.
If a journal is not for you, find a way to set daily intentions. This is where you get into the drivers seat. When you focus on something, you are more likely to get it done.
Yes! Yes! No morning routine is complete without heart pumping cardio. Again, know your limitations. I'm happy if I do 10-15 min. before hitting the shower. It's the deal I have with myself - sweat before shower. Create the habit. Make it easy and fun. I do old school...like the we did in elementary school!
- Jumping Jacks
- Arm Rolls
- Toe Touches
- Treadmill or Run in place
- Push Ups, Sit Ups,
The best feeling to come. Endorphins will be released. This is better than coffee and it really will charge you throughout the day. I credit exercise for smashing that 2 O'clock slug. No one will be able to stop you! You will be on your best game! You'll become your best machine - all day long - all day strong!
Find that one thing that makes you feel like a prince/princess. It can be ridiculously simple, or ridiculously ridiculous. Whatever it is do it for yourself. I love going to work and seeing the younger girls all dolled up. They really go all out on their hair and make-up. You know that takes morning routine time. That's right - that's them doing them. Find your you - doing you!
I'm ridiculously simple. So, my morning routine includes a self foot massage. Ummm Hummm! No matter what, after my shower, I take time to really give my feet a nice lubricating rub down. It's easy, and non-negotiable. I treat my feet! Yes! I hydrate and eat...but for this point...define your treat! For some it may be a cup of tea, or coffee...whatever it is make it non-negotiable...you're worth it ~ everyday!
Connect with your Loved ones!
Before you hit the door, hug, kiss, pray with your loved ones. Sounds like a no brainer, but I didn't start this until recently and it really makes a difference. I wish we had done this when the kids were little because it is a nice touch to break the day. We call it our kiss and prayer! Short & sweet cuddle -hug as we yield to our most high. It's warm, it's reassuring, and soothing to have this connection to start the day.
If you are single, pray for someone you love! Send a love message to someone you love. Come up with your own ways to make your connections stronger - every day!
